Join the Friends

…and qualify to win a stunning 1978 photo of Bruce and Clarence by James Shive!

The Friends of the Bruce Springsteen Special Collection is a “by fans for fans” organization that came together ten years ago, when we recognized that much of the written history of Bruce and his bands was in danger of being lost. From the original donations of 850 publications in 2001 we’ve created a world-class repository of books, magazines, tour books, song books, fanzines and other documents covering the entire history of Bruce Springsteen and his bands.

Now, as we enter a new and exciting phase in the life of the Collection, we invite you to join us. Your support will help increase the quality of the Collection, its visibility, and its stature. You will help ensure the permanent preservation of Bruce books, magazines and other printed works through state-of-the-art archival techniques. And you will enable us to start thinking ahead to the day when we can continue expanding the Collection into new and as yet untapped areas.
Memberships in The Friends are good for three years.  During our special membership drive, everyone who joins the Friends or renews an existing membership between now and January 31, 2012 will receive three backstage passes from the Human Touch/Lucky Town tour, each in mint condition.
We’ll also send you our twice-a-year newsletter, our annual collectable bookmark (the next will be the fifth already!), and a membership card.
And thanks to celebrated photographer James Shive, you’ll automatically qualify to win a stunning 16″ x 24″ print of Bruce Springsteen and Clarence Clemons which will be awarded to one lucky new or renewing member in a raffle drawing on February 1, 2012.
This amazing black and white print, taken May 27, 1978 at the Spectrum in Philadelphia, was recently published in Rolling Stone’s tribute to Clarence Clemons. It captures one of those special moments of love, brotherhood and friendship which defines the core of the E Street Band.
James Shive has been photographing concerts since 1974, documenting a time and place in rock and roll history that will never exist again.  Ask, and he’ll tell you “I thank my lucky stars everyday that I was there for every minute of it – to see it, to hear it, and to photograph it, my trusty camera in hand.” To read more about James, and see his amazing collection, please visit:
While there, be sure to check out his first ever set of limited edition Bruce Springsteen photographs.  The prints are incredible!
